Whole of Family Meetings
The Whole of Family Meetings model differs from child inclusive practice, in that the parents hear the child/ren's wishes directly
from their child/ren's voices, rather than from a child consultant. This model is particularly empowering to a child/ren in
separated families, who often feel that they have no voice in decisions which directly impact upon their lives, such as time spent
with each parent. Within this model the entire family, e.g. parents, grandparents, step-parents, children, siblings and
step-children have the opportunity to come together as a whole family to discuss issues in a safe and nurturing environment.
Early Intervention
Assisting and educating parents on how to tell child/ren
about the separation.
Facilitating and supporting children to listen and ask
questions and express their fears.
Educate children by normalising changes in emotional/
physical behaviour.
Grief
Voicing/Negotiating Issues and
Outcomes
Time spent with each parent - e.g. days, times, holidays
spent with each parent; sibling; grandparents.
Blended families - step-parents; step-siblings.
Refusal - e.g. anxiety, depression, fear, symptomatic
illnesses.
Child abuse / Family violence; drug abuse; Other
appropriate issues.
